Immigration Paralegal

Williams Mullen is seeking a paralegal to join its fast-paced corporate immigration practice. The paralegal will support multiple immigration attorneys and will work with other professional staff in preparing H-1B, E-2, L-1, PERM, I-140 Immigrant Petition, I-485 Adjustment of Status Applications, family-based petitions, naturalization applications, as well as responses to Requests for Evidence. The successful candidate will be highly organized, team oriented, able to manage multiple priorities, and comfortable communicating proactively and professionally with clients. This is a full-time, in-office position.


Responsibilities

  • Supporting attorneys in managing client relationships and delivering responsive service.
  • Preparing immigration cases as assigned for submittal to the appropriate government agency and achieving a mastery of case types from simple to complex filings within particular practice area(s)
  • Demonstrating independence in handling cases and achieving goals
  • Understanding the procedures and documentation required for cases to be filed successfully and following the company’s service standards
  • Working with clients to gather the necessary information and documentation in a timely manner
  • Conducting basic legal research to support the attorneys with respect to changing case requirements and legal developments
  • Preparing applications and petitions according to information received from clients
  • Drafting letters and other documents on behalf of the employer/client
  • Finalizing documents after review by the attorney
  • Demonstrating ability to manage a high caseload and work within strict timelines
  • Monitoring the status of all filed applications and petitions
  • Running reports to assist in managing one’s own caseload
  • Assisting with the review of billing protocols and ensuring that billing guidelines are met
  • Evaluating cases and assisting in providing case strategies and/or solutions to issues
  • Providing company contacts with training and guidance regarding the company’s systems and general immigration matters
  • Engaging in frequent contact with company client(s)
  • Keeping abreast of current regulations and procedures relating to filing applications


Required Education, Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; related paralegal certificate preferred
  • Law firm and/or professional services experience preferred, but not required
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proficient computer and word processing skills
  • Detail oriented, well-organized and able to handle multiple priorities.
  • Ability to quickly learn software applications, including immigration case management software (e.g. eImmigration, LawLogix, INSZoom, Immigration Tracker, etc.)
