Paralegal (Personal Injury, Civil Litigation)
Wolcott Rivers Gates is seeking an experienced Personal Injury Paralegal to join our team!
Position Summary:
A Personal Injury Paralegal at Wolcott Rivers Gates supports attorneys in all stages of personal injury cases, from intake through settlement or trial. Responsibilities include client communication, case management, discovery, drafting legal documents, and trial preparation. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage a broad caseload with professionalism and empathy.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct factual and legal research related to personal injury matters, including liability, damages, insurance coverage, and medical issues.
- Draft legal documents including complaints, demand packages, discovery requests/responses, motions, subpoenas, correspondence, settlement agreements, and trial exhibits.
- Prepare and organize documents for filings, mediations, depositions, arbitrations, and trials.
- E-file and/or submit documents to the appropriate courts.
- Coordinate service of process, medical record requests, and discovery exchanges.
- Summarize depositions, medical records, accident reports, expert reports, and discovery responses.
- Track case status, medical treatment updates, liens, and deadlines in case management systems to ensure all deadlines are met.
- Maintain, organize, and update client files (both paper and electronic) and case calendars.
- Communicate with clients, medical providers, experts, opposing counsel, insurance adjusters, and court personnel.
- Assist attorneys in preparing for depositions, mediations, arbitrations, and trial, including preparing trial notebooks, exhibits, and witness files.
- Draft and assemble settlement demand packages and assist with lien resolution and disbursements.
- Provide consistent follow-up and status updates to clients under attorney direction.
- Track and enter billable time in accordance with firm policies.
- Perform additional tasks and special projects as assigned.
Compensation Range: $60,000 - $75,000 per year commensurate with experience.

Skills:
- Working knowledge of Virginia litigation processes, court procedures, and e-filing systems.
- Proficient with legal software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong writing, proofreading, and organizational skills.
- Ability to review and summarize complex medical records and bills.
- Familiarity with discovery processes, including Requests for Production, Interrogatories, Subpoenas, and medical authorizations.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment.
- Professional demeanor and ability to maintain confidentiality.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2–3 years of experience as a paralegal in personal injury, civil litigation, or insurance defense. (Required)
- Bachelor's Degree, Paralegal certificate, or equivalent combined education and experience. (Required)
- Notary Public certification. (Preferred)
- Experience preparing settlement demand packages and negotiating with medical providers on lien reductions. (Preferred)
- Prior trial preparation and courtroom experience. (Preferred)
