Job Description

JOB SCOPE:
The Paralegal, Real Estate supports the Legal Team with various functions within the Real Estate business unit, including deployment of approved AI and technology tools into daily legal workflows, commercial real estate matters, portfolio support, document review and transaction support.

JOB SUMMARY:
The Paralegal, Real Estate is AI-oriented, comfortable deploying technology tools, and able to help incorporate technology into daily workflows. This role is self-directed and supports the incorporation of AI and technology tools to improve efficiency, tracking, document management, and legal team workflows. The Paralegal, Real Estate assists with matters relating to commercial real estate, including landlord and tenant issues, lease interpretations, REAs, mall landlord matters, closing of acquisitions and dispositions, company leasing efforts, initial drafting of ancillary agreements, disputes, defaults, due diligence, and the review, interpretation, and modification of property documents and agreements.

Responsibilities/Skills/Experience Requirements

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Supports deployment and use of approved AI and technology tools to improve document review, matter tracking, workflow automation, template management, reporting, and knowledge management for the Real Estate Legal team
  • Manages all aspects of commercial real estate acquisitions and dispositions from contract execution to through closing. Coordinates with attorneys, clients, title companies, surveyors, lenders, brokers, and opposing counsel to ensure timely and accurate closing
  • Assists attorneys with the company s leasing efforts and finalizing leases for execution, including, without limitation, ordering title, preparing permitted exceptions lists, and compiling exhibits
  • Reviews lease language, provides initial lease interpretation support, and initiates drafts of real estate documents
  • Reviews, analyzes, and provides interpretation of various property documents, including leases, amendments, REAs, title documents, surveys, estoppels, SNDAs, and related due diligence materials
  • Reviews and analyzes titles and surveys and assists with identifying solutions to cure title and survey defects
  • Provides assistance to the Real Estate Legal team in order to provide guidance to Asset Managers, Property Managers, Property Administrators, and other business partners
  • Assists with landlord and tenant issues, mall landlord matters, commercial lease matters, disputes, defaults, and REA-related issues
  • Drafts legal notices, letters, correspondence, and related real estate legal documents
  • Reviews, analyzes, and provides responses to estoppel and Subordination, Non-Disturbance, and Attornment Agreement (SNDA) requests
  • Compiles and tracks exhibits, final lease execution documents, recording documents, closing documents, and other real estate records
  • Manages and updates email blast requests and responses, law docket, matter trackers, project trackers, document repositories, and related workflow tools
  • Assists in drafting ancillary contracts and real estate documents, including without limitation Confidentiality Agreements, Access Agreements, License Agreements, Broker Agreements, and similar documents
  • Perform other duties as assigned

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelors Degree
  • 5-10 years of related experience
  • License/certification in relevant field
  • 18 years of age or older

REQUIRED SKILLS:
  • Demonstrated ability to use, deploy, or support implementation of AI, automation, document management, workflow, tracking, or other technology tools
  • Commercial real estate experience
  • Experience with commercial real estate closings, commercial real estate leases, REAs, mall landlord matters, title, survey, estoppels, SNDAs, due diligence, and real estate closing documents
  • Ability to initiate drafting and review of real estate documents as referenced above
  • Ability to effectively proof and edit legal and real estate documents with attention to detail
  • Team player with ability to build strong relationships and work cross-functionally in a complex organizational structure
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and mindset to face challenges with optimism
  • Strong organizational skills as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently without heavy supervision and to handle multiple priorities and deadlines

PREFERRED SKILLS:
  • Minimum 5 years experience in a similar commercial real estate leasing, transactions, or legal support role required; retail real estate experience preferred
