Paralegal - Litigation & Repossession Law

Summary/Objective

We are seeking a detail-oriented, organized, and proactive Paralegal to support our legal team in managing litigation involving vehicle repossession agents and recovery operations. The ideal candidate will assist attorneys legal research, document preparation, managing case files, and providing administrative support to ensure efficient case management.


Essential Functions

  • Organize and maintain accurate case files, ensuring all documents are current, complete, and properly retained.
  • Track deadlines and court dates, ensuring timely filings.
  • Maintain case management systems and update litigation tracking reports and spreadsheets with real-time case activity.
  • Prepare weekly litigation status reports summarizing all active lawsuits.
  • Conduct legal research on federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and case law related to repossession, consumer protection, creditor rights, and recovery operations.
  • Perform legal research and litigation tracking using the federal PACER database.
  • Analyze, summarize findings for attorneys.
  • Prepare legal correspondence to insurance carriers, repossession agents, opposing counsel, regarding active litigation.
  • Organize exhibits, witness files, evidence, and case summaries for hearings, depositions, mediations, and trials.
  • Communicate with clients to obtain information, provide case updates, and assist them in understanding the litigation process.
  • Serve as a liaison between attorneys, clients, repossession vendors, insurance carriers, expert witnesses, opposing counsel, courts, and third-party service providers.
  • Coordinate responses to lawsuits, demand letters, regulatory inquiries, and consumer disputes.
  • Assist attorneys in managing their schedules and preparing for meetings and court appearances.
  • Handle legal billing and timekeeping activities.
  • Work with accounts payable for all new attorney setups and approval on billing.
  • Manage onboarding protocols, including engagement letters, W-9s, banking information,
  • Monitor compliance with federal, state, and local laws governing repossession activities and consumer protection requirements.
  • Assist attorneys in evaluating legal risks and ensuring adherence to company policies and industry regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Associate's degree, Bachelor's degree, Paralegal Certificate, or equivalent legal experience.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of paralegal experience in litigation and repossession law.
  • Strong understanding of litigation procedures, court filing requirements, and discovery processes.
  • Experience conducting legal research, including use of PACER and other legal research databases.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and legal case management software.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are variable and based on business need. Evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Travel up to

35% on auction and client meetings.

Physical Requirements

This position is indoors. Must be able to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period. May be asked to lift approximately 25 lbs. Exposure to moderate noise and light, i.e., business office with computers, phone, printers, light foot traffic.
