We are seeking an experienced and highly organized Paralegal to support our Legal Department, working closely with the Mid-Atlantic leasing team and other corporate department requirements. This role will partner closely with the Mid-Atlantic legal team and greater legal department, providing critical support across leasing, litigation tracking, and transactional matters related to our commercial real estate portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

Leasing & Transactional Support

  • Draft initial versions of commercial leases and related documents, including secondary documents from letter of intent and/or lease brief using internal document production software, including:
  • Amendments, extensions, and assignments
  • Commission agreements
  • License agreements, short-term occupancy agreements and event agreements
  • Default notices, and related correspondence
  • Prepare redlines and revisions of subsequent drafts of lease documents
  • Adapt existing forms to specific deals, revising existing language based upon comments from tenant and/or attorney, according to departmental guidelines
  • Distribute drafts and coordinate revisions under the supervision of the Legal Department staff
  • Manage file system with respect to each tenant and/or lease
  • Collaborate with outside counsel, and when requested, track the status of lease documentation being prepared by outside counsel

Legal Operations & Project Support

  • Prepare summaries of leases and other legal documents
  • Conduct targeted research on lease provisions, including:
  • Termination rights
  • Co-tenancy clauses
  • Exclusive and restricted use provisions
  • Support projects related to the ownership, development, and operation of commercial real estate assets
  • Coordinate with internal departments responsible for lease administration and collections to check tenant account for defaults and arrearages

Litigation & Compliance Tracking

  • Support General Counsel in tracking litigation and environmental matters
  • Maintain organized reporting of such litigation and environmental matters for internal leadership updates
  • Create and maintain files including working, chronological, and litigation files
  • Draft internal and external correspondence

Administrative & Process Coordination

  • Manage legal administrative processes, including:
  • Document processing and distribution
  • Invoice and expense tracking
  • Coordinate document execution workflows, including DocuSign
  • Partner with internal teams to ensure timely execution and delivery of legal documents
  • Provide occasional administrative support to the legal department
  • Complete other various projects and duties as assigned

Qualifications

Experience

  • 5+ years of paralegal/lease negotiator experience in real estate, such as:
  • Owner/developer organizations
  • Law firm real estate practice groups
  • Landlord or tenant representation environments
  • Experience with environmental or litigation matters a plus

Technical Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to:
  • Draft and edit commercial leases and related documents
  • Review, analyze, and summarize complex legal agreements
  • Knowledge of legal terminology and experience with generation of lease briefs and retail leases
  • Highly proficient using MSOffice (Outlook, Word, Excel) with the ability to learn and use new software and systems
  • Experience with or willingness to learn legal technology tools, including document automation and AI-driven platforms
  • Understanding of, and willingness to learn and use, GenAI tools highly desired

The salary range for this position is $130,000-$140,000 and is bonus eligible. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package, including:
