If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible team as a Legal Assistant (Office Automation) Grand Jury Coordinator with the United States Attorney's Office in the Middle District of Alabama. Typical work assignments will include:
  • Conducting a variety of grand jury administrative duties associated with grand jury operations, i.e., transcribes, prepares and distributes both complex confidential legal correspondence, maintains files, logs, complaints, transcripts, reports and other confidential records of grand jury proceedings.
  • Assembling all necessary information for presentation of indictments and obtaining documentation or other records required for presentation of a case to the grand jury.
  • Scheduling appearances, coordinating returns of indictments, including witnesses, returns, and arraignments.
  • Reviewing case information, or related factual information, to assist support staff, attorneys, and agents in planning and executing legal strategies.
  • Ensuring grand jury materials and federal tax information by maintaining the security of Grand Jury files and records.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. To be eligible at the GS-08 grade level, you must meet at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level.

Specialized Experience is defined as experience performing the following types of duties: providing assistance to attorneys by preparing and processing complaints, motions, subpoenas, orders, or other hearing and/or trial documents; obtaining needed information from files, law enforcement agencies, or other sources; completing legal documents in conformance with the rules governing their style and format; conducting factual and legal research in legal and non-legal databases; and using automated software to produce legal related reports and documents, including developing tables of contents and indices to briefs.

To be qualified, you must type at least 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors. (A typing test may later be required.)

Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
